Last Saturday, at the Novotel Center Hotel in Madrid, a historic meeting for Spanish municipalism was held, bringing together more than 500 mayors, councilors and independent provincial deputies from all over the country. The convention, which transcended geographical and partisan divisions, focused on addressing the current challenges facing municipalism in Spain.

The day began with an emotional minute of silence in honor of the victims of the recent fire in Valencia. Immediately afterwards, David García, mayor of Nules, expressed his gratitude when inaugurating the event, highlighting the importance of the meeting as a milestone in the country's municipalist strength.

The event was divided into two fundamental parts. The first consisted of three round tables that explored the short and medium term challenges of municipalism, as well as the need for cooperation and collaboration between local leaders. The second part featured the constituent assembly of the Municipalist Confederation, where the founding manifesto, the statutes and the name of the new entity were approved: Municipalist Union.

In the assembly, David García was unanimously elected as the first president of the Municipalist Union. The meeting concluded with the election of the Executive, of which he became a part Ana Sala, mayor of Calp with the Somos Calpe formation, and a Guarantees Commission, thus marking a transformative day for Spanish municipalism and reflecting the commitment to work together to make local voices heard louder at all levels of government.
