'Alcalalí Sense Flor': The 6th edition of Feslalí vindicates a festival highly affected by Xylella and European regulations

January 24 from 2022 - 16: 09

The 6th edition of Feslalí reinvents itself and does so with a very vindictive and critical motto "Alcalalí sense flor". "We can no longer see the 'Vie en Rose', the Xylella fastidiosa bacterium has taken care of it, which has killed a good part of the almond trees in the town," they explain from the City Council.

The current eradication program, imposed from Europe, and executed by the Generalitat Valenciana during the last 4 years has had disastrous consequences for Alcalalí. Dozens and dozens of terracing of almond trees in full production have been uprooted and the trees crushed, greatly aggravating the already very fragile situation of the agricultural sector.

Almond cultivation in Alcalalí does not only have an agricultural dimension. It is one of the greatest landscape values of the municipality, a sign of identity of neighbors and neighbors who generation after generation have guarded the territory.

"In Alcalalí we do not give up. We love our land, that is why we resist and will resist. In this 6th edition of Feslalí "Alcalalí sense flor" we want to vindicate our most emblematic crop, honor the work of our farmers and bet on respect for the territory", they have explained from the consistory

Complete program Feslalí 2022

under the motto “Feslalí, #AlcalalíSenseFlor” The municipality relaunches its program of activities from February 5 to 20, which can be consulted at www.feslali.com.

Feslalí begins the first weekend of February with the 6th Edition of the #AlcalalíSenseFlor Photographic Marathon. Those interested in participating can register for free until February 1 at www.feslali.com.

Culture and history are also present in the program. The Medieval Tower and the Ethnological Museum will be open to the public and two exhibitions can be visited: "Aleshores, llavors" and "Urban Exhibition".

"Aleshores, llavors" is an exhibition by local artist Laura López Chesa, in which the almond tree is described conceptually and metaphorically. In this, we can see the vital phases of this tree represented, making an allegory of the cycle of life.

With the Urban Exhibition the streets of Alcalalí will be filled with flowers. The exhibition proposes a circular tour of photographs participating in the latest editions of the Photographic Marathon.

On the other hand, we propose 5 themed routes, of different difficulty, so that you can choose the one that best suits you. To participate, registration is required through www.feslali.com.

"Despite COVID'19 and Xylella, we resist, we are still standing and ready to continue offering the best of Alcalalí. Of course, with less flower but with the same enthusiasm as always", they have concluded the statement from the consistory.
