The Marina Alta is left without one of its historic Fallas: "The commission has decided to rest this year"

14 March 2024 - 10: 53

The Fallas bustle has already begun to take over cities and towns in the Valencian territory since the beginning of the week. In the Marina Alta, anyone who visited the capital of the region suffered traffic cuts due to the preparation for the Fallas, as will also happen in Pego.

But it will be in another municipality in the region, where the Fallas spirit has walked its streets for more than 20 years, where in 2024 there will be a break. Pamis, the minor population center in Ondara, accustomed to planting its monument during these days, will not burn its falla. And, "the commission has decided not to do it and rest," confirmed the Ondara Festival councilor, Miguel Gomis.

About 10 people make up the commission in the nucleus, who make their monument by hand and in community. The hard work until seeing the reward once the plant is finished has been enough for them this season. However, as detailed by the councilor, it is a brief parenthesis and not the total abandonment of the Pamis fallera tradition.

Previously, only on two occasions had they given up trying to display their monument. One, in 2020, with the arrival of the pandemic, like the rest of the failures throughout the geography, and the second in 2021, also due to the restrictions in force.

In 2022, Pamis was able to recover the gigantic handcrafted monument, made for 2020, which recreated the emblematic Ondara Clock Tower, with a nine-meter-high construction made of wood, cardboard, cork and paint. In 2023, the residents of the center focused on the war in Ukraine, with a monument that symbolized a missile tank and other war material, almost 3 meters high.
