Daniela Avellá from CG Les Marines de Calp is proclaimed Provincial Champion and Triana Ruano wins the Pre-Benjamin Provincial Bronze

06 March 2024 - 13: 37

Last weekend the provincial phase of the individual base Spanish championship was held, postponed due to the Campanar fire, which gave two provincial medals to the Calpines Daniela Avellá and Triana Ruano. Due to the high number of participants, the competition had to be separated into two days, with Saturday being the turn of the pre-Benjamin and Benjamin categories, and Sunday being the turn of the rest of the categories. The Calpino Club was represented in most categories with a total of 13 gymnasts, of which eight of them made it to the regional phase next weekend.

On Saturday, March 2, the youngest in the competition traveled to Oliva. In the youngest category, Almudena Buigues, Paula García and Zaira Bessa competed to get one of the twenty places available for the regional phase, against a total of 29 gymnasts from the entire community. Nerves did not allow the young gymnasts to bring out their full potential. Even so, the three youngest of Les Marines obtained their pass to the regional team. Highlighting Zaira's fourth provincial place, while Paula was sixth and Almudena eighth. At the same time, Triana Ruano in the pre-benjamin category, carried out a magnificent exercise that proclaimed her Provincial Bronze, achieving direct passage to the regional level.

On Sunday the 3rd in Almussafes, the highlight of the weekend arrived. Once again the gymnasts from Les Marines sought to take one of the 20 places in their respective categories, for the regional competition. Those in charge of opening the day were the 2008/07 juniors, Naiara Fernández, Lucia Avellà and Valery Guzman competed in the largest category, with a total of 60 gymnasts from the entire community. The pressure that this situation entailed, where only a third of the participants would get the pass, took its toll on their performances, making it impossible to achieve the goal.

After passing the bad news, the greatest joy of the day came. Daniela Avellá was proclaimed Provincial Champion in Alevín 2013 and third among the three provinces. Avellá filled the tapestry with her "confidence" and good work, raising the entire pavilion and earning great praise. Next it was the turn of Tatiana Crimi, who competed in the youth category. Crimi defended her risky mace exercise with the maturity and serenity that characterize her, classifying herself as fifth provincial.

The afternoon session was opened by the 2012 children's and 2011 children's categories. Sofia Bacanu enchanted the jury with her rope exercise to the rhythm of The girl ye ye, which placed it as fourth provincial and with a pass to the regional level. Her classmate, Paulina Koeberle, did not have luck on her side, and a series of mistakes left her just ten hundredths away from getting her place. In children's 2011, Julia Lara performed a beautiful exercise without major errors. However, the very high level of this category, where 18 gymnasts were left out, meant that Lara did not obtain the pass.

Finally, at 21 p.m., Sanchia Roberts was performing her hoop exercise in the 2009 cadet category. Roberts performed a magnificent exercise that placed her among the ten best in the province and obtained a place for the next weekend.

After this weekend, CG Les Marines already has its sights set on the next big events. On Saturday the 9th, its eight qualified gymnasts will fight to be the best in the community and obtain a place at the national level. While on Sunday the 10th, the Base Cup teams will compete in their provincial phase. From the club they are "very proud of the results obtained, wishing to repeat successes in the regional competition." They also want to wish "good luck" to the qualified gymnasts and teams, as well as to send encouragement to those who have not made it through.
