This is how the new automatic pylons in the old town of Pego will work with license plate reading
A few months ago, four automatic pylons were installed in the old town of Pego to close access to vehicles. The retractable blocking devices, with a green light or red light when refusing it, will give access to the residents of the newly pedestrianized area, in addition to the vehicles of authorities (Police and Civil Guard) or health or cleaning services. .
Dates for the operation of the pylons
As of Thursday, August 4, the central area will have restricted access to most vehicles: only those of the neighbors, as well as those of the loading and unloading services (the latter during business hours) will be able to access . At the moment, during the month of August, these traffic cuts will only be carried out on Thursday mornings.
Later, in September the closure of the old town will be from Thursday to Sunday. “It is done progressively, firstly to get used to it, and secondly so that the neighbors, as well as the affected businesses, test the mechanisms and can detect any failure, which will try to be resolved as quickly as possible”, explains the councilor of Urbanism, Laura Castellà.
How will the automatic pylons work?
The new devices are complemented by control cameras installed at the same points as the automatic pylons. The cameras will read the license plates and give the order to the pylons so that they come down and let the vehicles circulate. The program has a memory where the license plates that can access this area of the municipality will be registered.
In fact, the Local Police already has practically all the license plates that they will have access to, collected in recent weeks. The agents will be in charge of introducing the license plates of the possible new vehicles that the neighbors may acquire.
If a vehicle is not registered on this list, the pylon will not allow it free passage. If even so, the driver tries to access (a motorcycle, for example), the camera will also record the license plate so that the Local Police can file the corresponding infraction. As for loading and unloading vehicles, a specific schedule will be stipulated.
The automatic pylons also have sound sensors that will speed up the descent of the pylon when services such as the Local Police or health services (Acció Urgent or ambulance) approach and can access without having to wait.
Where are they found?
Regarding the location of the four installed automatic bollards:
- Sant Antoni de Pàdua street, at the intersection with Ramón y Cajal street
- Ramón i Cajal Street, a few meters from the first, right at the intersection with Argentina Street.
- Calle Sant Agustí, a few meters from the intersection with Calle Sant Domènec
- Ecce Homo Street, near the intersection with Mestre Blasco and Capitan Cendra streets.
The budget for this pedestrianization project is 88.219,97 euros, an amount fully financed by the City Council of Pego, with the remainder of the 2019 treasury.
