Xaló and Llíber will be linked through a new cycle-pedestrian lane

November 22 from 2022 - 10: 09

The Provincial Council of Alicante will invest 388.000 euros in the implementation of a cycle-pedestrian lane on the CV-745 road between Xaló and Llíber with the aim of improving road safety for cyclists, pedestrians and drivers. The works, which have an execution period of four months, could begin in May.

This was announced this morning by the deputy for the area, Alejandro Morant, who has visited the area, accompanied by the mayors of both municipalities, Joan Miquel Garcés and José Juan Reus, and the deputies of the government team, José Ramón González de Zarate and Juan Bautista Roselló, as well as by the deputy of Compromís and councilor of Xaló, Gerard Fullana.

"Both Llíber and Xaló have a large number of housing estates, mostly occupied by foreigners, mainly British and from northern Europe, who make extensive use of bicycles to get around, so we have considered it very convenient to build this lane -bike to improve safety on this road, both for pedestrians and cyclists”, Morant indicated.

In this sense, the deputy has valued the commitment of the Alicante Provincial Council to this type of infrastructure since, as he has pointed out, in this legislature more than 60 kilometers of cycle-pedestrian lanes have been promoted from the Highway Area in the provincial road network, many of them in the Marina Alta region.

The action, which will take place between kilometer 0 and 1 of this single carriageway, provides for the creation of a 1,5 meter wide bike lane on the right bank of the road. In addition, a separation of 30 centimeters from the shoulder will be left to mark and install separators and the gutter will be rebuilt, concreted and one meter wide, with a drainage system for the collection of rainwater.

Likewise, various solutions have been contemplated for the two ravines that the road crosses, while the radius of the existing curve will be improved at the point where a building is located, gaining space to fit the cycle-pedestrian path.

At present, and once the project has been definitively approved, the Diputación is in the phase of expropriation of the land necessary to develop the work that, as explained by the deputy, is being carried out "without any type of setback , so the works could be tendered at the beginning of 2023 and start in the month of May”.

For their part, both the mayor of Llíber and Xaló have thanked the provincial institution for promoting this work and have raised the possibility that in the future the Diputación also subsidizes the placement of solar streetlights to illuminate this road.

Marina Alta Investments

Morant has taken advantage of the presentation of this project to recall that in the last four years the investment of the Provincial Council in the Marina Alta in terms of highways and roads has reached 9,7 million euros.

With regard to roads, 24 works worth four million euros have already been carried out, such as the widening and improvement of the CV-745 between Senija and Llíber in two phases (976.693 euros), the conditioning of the CV-742 from Jávea to Cabo de la Nao (306.530 euros), the improvement of access to Fontilles in La Vall de Laguar (303.841 euros) the adaptation of the rolling of the CV-746 from Calp to Moraira, also in two phases (450.000 euros) or the reinforcement of the Sagra surface in CV-729 (337.572 euros).
In addition, there are another ten works in the process of execution for another four million euros, as is the case of the La Ràfol d'Almunia variant (1.000.000 euros), the improvement of the safety of the CV-723 from Denia to Avesana (490.000 euros) or the improvement of the layout of the CV-720 Benichembla to Castell de Castells (353.604 euros).

"From the provincial institution we have made a great investment effort in recent years to design, plan and execute actions in the Marina Alta with the aim of improving road safety in the area and mobility", indicated the provincial official.

On the other hand, the Diputación has also allocated in this legislature more than 1,2 million euros to the execution of some thirty actions on different roads in the region, including the Camí Marnes de Llíber and the Camí Asegador Benibral de Xaló.
