The Xaló City Council has signed the agreement that will allow the municipality to have a Day Center for the elderly. The signing took place in a meeting with the presence of the General Director of Social Services Infrastructures, Enric Juan, the Mayor, Joan Miquel Garcés, and the Councilor for Social Services, Lara Avellà.
In this sense, Xaló will have an investment of two million euros by the Ministry and the collaboration of the City Council and the Diputación de Alicante. The center will have 40 seats for the towns in the interior of the region. The center will be completely public, managed by the Ministry of Equality and Inclusive Policies. An agreement that is the result of the meetings that began four years ago with the Ministry.
In the coming weeks, the drafting of the preliminary project will begin and then the drafting of the final project will be tendered, whose works could begin at the end of 2023. The objective set by the consistory is that the last third of 2024 may be the service available.
At the town's center
The new Day Center of the Valley of Pop It will be located in the current nursery schools on Lepanto Street, in the center of the town. The Valencian government urged municipalities to offer municipal spaces for this objective and once work on the new school-institute began, the Xaló City Council confirmed the availability of this plot, which is located 100 meters from Plaza del town and has 1.200 square meters.
The City Council plans to add to this work a commitment to rehabilitate this sector of the town, integrating it into the old town and providing it with more services, green areas and parking.
The Councilor for Social Services, Lara Avellà, stressed that "we have been working on this issue for four years, from the town hall we are making an important commitment by giving a space to the center of our municipality that will make it easier to offer a close and integrated service to the elderly people in the town. of the interior of the region”.
