Are the rains and storms back in the Marina Alta after so many weeks of heat?

May 11 from 2023 - 09: 50

The last few weeks have been long and hot, in which it seemed that the Marina Alta was already plunged into summer. The unchanged forecast models raised fears that the rain would not return. Although the sky early on Thursday already announced an alteration in time.

According to the Climatology Laboratory of the Universitat d'Alacant, important changes in the weather are expected in the next few hours, with the arrival of a bag of cold air in height over the Iberian Peninsula. This phenomenon will cause a general drop in temperatures and an increase in instability throughout the province. In addition, he points out, a slight flow of gregal is expected.

Starting tomorrow, there could be some showers in the Alicante regions, but during Friday and Saturday downpours and storms are expected that will affect a large part of the region. In the medium and long term, the maps indicate that stormy shower situations will continue.

Despite the fact that we are still in spring, experts hope that this situation will continue until the summer and help alleviate the drought that affects many areas of the country.

When does the rain come to the region?

The changing situation began to be noticed yesterday afternoon with a drop in temperatures, especially in the minimum temperatures. The maximum temperatures tomorrow, Friday, will be between 20 and 22 °C, while the minimum temperatures will be between 12 and 14 degrees, either in the coastal municipalities, such as Dénia, Xàbia or Calp, or in the pre-coastal area, such as Gata de Gorgos, Pedreguer or Ondara. In inland towns, such as Alcalalí, Vall de Gallinera or Vall de Laguar, temperatures could drop below 20 °C and the minimum temperatures could drop to 10 °C.

With regard to precipitation, the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency indicates that it will be the inland towns that will see the rain arrive before, offering high probabilities as of Friday morning. It will be from the afternoon when the instability moves to the coast.
