Last Friday, March 10, the exhibition 'Traveling through watercolors' by the painter Rosa Gavilà was inaugurated at the Casa de Cultura. The show is a posthumous exhibition to commemorate the figure of Rosa Gavilà through her work, which "is still alive", as stated by the Department of Culture and Equality, Raquel Mengual.

The opening ceremony was attended by Montse Gavilà on behalf of the artist's family, who dedicated some moving words to help understand her aunt's work. The act was introduced by the writer Jovi Lozano-Seser, a friend of the painter, and included the intervention of Miguel Gomis, Councilor for Festivals and Traditions of Ondara, who presented the original work of Rosa Gavilà that was the cover of the book of Popular Festivals of Sant Jaume 2019.

Rosa Gavilà captured small details of her environment so that no one would forget everything that had once existed and, somehow, her works do the same with her. She now delights the public with a set of 19 pictorial works made with watercolors, the vast majority conceived in the years 2018 and 2019, which manage to perfectly encapsulate the essence of that space, and invite you to see life from the perspective of she. The exhibition can be visited until March 31.

It is worth mentioning that the Ondara City Council, through its Department of Equality, commemorated International Women's Day in 2016 with the celebration of a tribute to the painter Rosa Gavilà Vita (Ondara, 1943-2020) as an outstanding woman of Ondara. Rosa Gavilà was a painter from Ondar who, after living in France, where she delved into the art world, taught painting classes in the town and dedicated herself to art restoration. She was and still is well known and loved by the people of Ondara. This exhibition is part of the programming that the Department of Culture and Equality of the Ondara City Council has prepared on the occasion of 8M, under the slogan "March with the name of a woman".
