Today marks the sixth anniversary of the great snowfall that covered the Marina Alta in white. It was the morning of Wednesday, January 18, 2017, but the snow began to fall during the early morning. From the interior to the coast, the region was surprised with a very difficult picture to see, since, since 1983, this phenomenon had not been repeated.
The snow came in the middle of a great cold wave. Highways such as Les Planes were cut off. Others, then used as motorways, such as the AP-7 as it passes through Benissa, Orba and Xaló, presented traffic difficulties.
The luckiest children, like those of Dénia, Xàbia, Benissa, Teulada-Moraira, Gata de Gorgos, Xaló, El Verger or Els Poblets, managed to enjoy the snow because their schools canceled classes. Until, when the sun began to be the protagonist of the morning, the snow melted and the streets returned to their usual state.
However, that did not prevent many residents of the Marina Alta from having time to immortalize that moment of euphoria. We, to continue contributing to the memory of the region, have compiled some of these photographs to see how that day was lived in different towns and areas of the Marina Alta.
