A historic day in the Marina Alta: the Benissa bypass opens after 15 years of work

28 July 2022 - 15: 46

More than 10.000 cars crossed (at this time they still cross) Benissa following the course of the N-332. Traffic, accidents and pollution that tarnished the image of the municipality and that, starting today at 18:00 p.m., will go down in history.

This midday, the Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, together with the Regional Minister for Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, Rebeca Torró, and the mayor of Benissa, Arturo Poquet, have inaugurated the new Bypass of Benissa (N-332 ), 5km long, which will take traffic out of the 'benisser' municipality.

The inaugural event was also attended by mayors and councilors from the main municipalities of the Marina Alta (Calp, Teulada-Moraira, Xaló, Ondara and Pego). Ana Sala, mayor of Calp, has been very satisfied with the inauguration since it is also a great benefit for the connection of the Calpine municipality with the rest of the territory. Like Poquet, mayor of Benissa, who has valued the importance of this variant for the welfare of the people of Benissa, although he has recognized that they now have an "economic challenge ahead to support the municipality's commerce" since many people will stop circulate through the municipality. In this sense, the first mayor has reported that a contest of ideas will be opened to assess which is the best option for the road.

All the political representatives, of different ideologies, have described the day as "historic". And is not for less. These leftovers started 15 years ago. The first company went bankrupt and it was the second, 5 years ago, who took up the works that are ending today. Some works that have cost 38 million euros.

However, the works do not end here. As Bernabé has advanced, the project to improve the Teulada and Calp exits is in the process of being drafted. The investment for this new work will amount to 15 million euros. The question now will be whether it will take another 15 years to be inaugurated, or whether Teulada and Calp will be able to have these improvements sooner.
