Three municipalities in the Marina Alta are among those with the least employment in all of Spain

The National Institute of Statistics (INE) has recently published the latest results of the 2021 Population and Housing Censuses. These data were shared on a decennial basis, but the agency has announced that from 2022 the edition will be annual.

Among the contributions made by this first batch of information on the census, it stands out that, since 2011, the population in Spain has grown by 1,2%. That is, 584.882 more people. However, among the results analyzed by the INE, those that relate the census to the economic activity of the country are striking.

Thus, in the list of municipalities with more than 10.000 inhabitants according to the Activity Rate, three municipalities of the Marina Alta appear among those with the lowest rate recorded since the last studies 10 years ago. The aforementioned activity rate is the indicator that measures the intensity of employment and the productive capacity of a country, showing the quotient between the total number of active people and the population over 16 years of working age.

The list shows the 20 municipalities with more than 10.000 inhabitants in Spain with the lowest activity rate, among which Calp it is in twelfth position at the state level with a 43,3% activity rate. However, there are regional municipalities with an even lower rate than the Calpina locality.

For its part, Xàbia It stands at number seven with an activity rate of 42,4%. And, finally, within the three localities with the lowest rate in the country is Teulada, with 39,2%. Only Rojales, in the Vega Baixa del Segura region of Alicante, and Son Servera, in the Balearic Islands, would remain as those with the lowest activity rate in Spain with 28,5% and 37,3%, respectively.
