Far from being overcome, these problems continue to be present from a very early age. November 30th was chosen as a day to raise awareness and shed light on these mental disorders, which, like all others, need to be treated in a specific and specialized way. Teenagers and young people who suffer from eating disorders need professional treatment.
These disorders can affect people of all genders, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, ages, and body sizes. In general, warning signs for anyone with an eating disorder may include a preoccupation with size, weight, food, or exercise, which worsens the person's quality of life.
People with eating disorders may also withdraw from their friends and routines. Other warning signs include fasting, significant calorie restriction, vomiting, or the use of laxatives or weight loss pills. Psychological work will be essential with these people, from strengthening their self-esteem,
self-concept, that they learn coping skills, and very importantly, good emotional management. We must be emotionally intelligent, and this will involve knowing ourselves and training in healthy responses that will give me feelings of well-being and therefore a higher quality of life. As with all disorders, let us not forget that the sooner we consult, the better the prognosis.
