Follow-up meeting

According to reports from the Ministry, between 2017 and 2020, the plague has affected 63 municipalities in the Valencian Community, with a total of 4.611 positive samples of 21 different plant species. In other words, the region represents almost half of the affected municipalities in the entire Community. The latest data shows that 286 new positive cases of 14 different plant species have been detected.

With the publication of the update on the status of the pest, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition, Isaura Navarro, those responsible for plant health in her department, various agricultural organizations and groups of affected people held the first meeting of 2023 monitoring of the Xylella fastidiosa plague.

In it, the minister insisted on the need to increase the price paid for each affected tree. Currently, the maximum price for each torn copy is 28 euros. A study by the Universitat Politècnica de València, commissioned by the Ministry, will determine what the applicable amount will be for the future.

The councilor also stressed that Agriculture will increase the dissemination of aid for new tree plantations so that those affected are aware of these subsidies, it will facilitate the procedures for accessing this program to encourage the maintenance of crops and increase aid.
