The course of the project 'Pilota at the Valencian Schools Meetings' begins in Ondara with a day of pilota grossa

25 September 2024 - 12: 10

Next Wednesday, October 2, the Trinquete Municipal de Ondara will host the start of the school year event for the second edition of the 'Pilota at the Valencian School Meetings' project; an initiative of the Valencian School Federation that aims to promote Valencian pilota during the Meetings and, specifically, pilota grossa.

Ondara City Council, through the Department of Sports headed by Lluís Fornés, has committed to co-organising the event on Wednesday 2 October by providing spaces and helping the organisation with whatever is needed.

The presentation of this sporting and educational event was attended, at the Trinquete Municipal of Ondar, by the Councillor for Sports, Lluís Fornés; the municipal sports technician Ana Ribes, and those responsible for the pelota project at the Valencian Schools Meetings, Vicent Romans and Sebastià Giner.

Boys and girls from Ondara, El Verger, Pego, Benissa, Confrides and Onil will meet on October 2nd at the Trinquete in Ondara for a day of socialising. From 9:30 to 13:30 they will play different games, both on the street and inside the trinquete.

The 'Pilota a los Encuentros de Escuelas Valencianas' project was born from the Federation of Valencian Schools because it understood that sport should also be integrated into the activities that take place during the Valencian Schools Meetings.

Vicent Romans from Ondara, one of the project leaders, has expressed his satisfaction that the presentation ceremony is taking place in Ondara "since it has the second oldest active trinquete and, in addition, the Pelota School is one of the most successful. Pelota is very much alive in Ondara and we want to take advantage of this fact to give greater publicity to the project."

Regarding the project 'Pilota at the Valencian Schools Meetings', Vicent Romans explains that "if we talk about sport we must talk about our sport, Valencian pelota; we were clear that it was the sport we had to incorporate."

From the beginning, the chosen method for its introduction was the large ball "because it is a method accessible throughout the world; however, like any project, it is susceptible to change in the future."
