Claim, gastronomy, culture and throwing bones: this was the Vall de Gallinera Cherry Festival 2024

09 June 2024 - 11: 03

The Vall de Gallinera does not give up despite the uncertainty with its most precious crop: the Alicante Mountain Cherries. On Saturday the XXI Cherry Festival was celebrated, with a twist. In this year's poster they highlighted the word "vindictive party." Last 2023 the fruit production was zero and this 2024 the irregularity in ripening has been the protagonist.

Despite the difficulties, like every year, the town, with Benialí as the nerve center of the celebration, was filled with cherries, stands with artisan products, activities for all audiences and a more than welcoming atmosphere. The program started first thing in the morning with an interpretive excursion from Benirrama to Benialí.

Talks and colloquiums also take center stage in this festival. This year, “transformation trends” and “future perspectives” captured the attention of attendees.

As it could not be otherwise, gastronomy also formed an important part of the day. The well-known chef Jordi Morera delighted with his assistants with a cooking show that he brought together the most curious palates at the Festa de la Cirera.

One of the most peculiar activities of the celebration is always the International Cherry Stone Throwing Competition on La Font Street. Adults and children participated without fear of their abilities to offer a worthy show that was more than thematic and representative.

Before night fell, the Grup de Danses Mallorquines Escola de Ball de Galilea, from Puigpunyent, a Mallorcan town twinned with the Vall de Gallinera, offered a performance to the delight of those in attendance. Tradition forms a crucial part of the festival in the municipality that does not abandon its efforts to enhance the cultural wealth that characterizes it wherever you look.
