Guinness record in Beniarbeig: more than 13.000 hits in one hour with a Filipino Eskrima stick

May 20 from 2022 - 08: 00

Beniarbeig was the setting chosen by the German Markus Göttel, who has lived in the Marina Alta for years, to break a new Guinness Record. The challenge was to give a minimum of 10.400 blows in one hour using a rattan stick, which is used to practice Filipino Eskrima.

The minimum number of hits was set by the Guinness World Records organization itself, however, Göttel exceeded it. He managed to cause 13.617 hits in 60 minutes. For this, the German had to carry out a thorough and constant preparation, physical and mental, with which to achieve maximum concentration and effort. Something that martial arts always require.

The Filipino Eskrima specifically is a type of fighting using bladed weapons. In this case, it is common to practice it with a rattan stick, a highly elastic material that, therefore, does not splinter. Therefore, it is perfect for this training model.

During the challenge, they had to witness the feat from lawyers to teachers of different Martial Arts, specifically two. The hour was recorded with various cameras, from various angles and was also broadcast live on social networks. All this with the purpose of leaving the best possible record, both written and graphic. This is how the organization requires it in these cases.

Now, after presenting all this documentation, Göttel hopes to validate the record and be part of one of the next pages of the Guinness Book of Records.
