MAP | What did the towns of the Marina Alta vote in the 2019 municipal elections?

May 21 from 2023 - 07: 00

The last municipal elections were held on May 26, 2019. Citizens determined the political direction of each municipality and the leadership of their municipalities until May 28, 2023, when they must decide again.

This map shows the electoral results that emerged from the votes counted in the past elections in each of the towns of the Marina Alta. In it, the political formation that gathered the most votes is highlighted, regardless of the government pacts reached later, which can dye some localities in a different color.

While the red force of the PSPV-PSOE dominated much of the north of the region, the blue of the Partido Popular did so in the south, especially on the coast. The other force with the most votes was Compromís, who achieved great representation in the interior.

The map also shows the wide political diversity that exists in smaller towns with parties that consolidated their leadership in 2019. These are Units per Benimeli, Independents per Sanet i Negrals, Gent pel Canvi in Sagra, JuntsxParcent, Units per Castell de Castells, Gent per la Vall and Iniciativa per l'Atzúbia i Forna.

The two towns in the Marina Alta that least go to vote at the polls

Despite the initial results, as previously stated, the parties of some municipalities managed to make government pacts between various formations that finally changed the color of the purely collected results.

In Teulada Moraira, Compromís (4 councilors), PSPV-PSOE (3) and Ciudadanos (2) joined forces to unseat the Popular Party (7 councilors). However, at the beginning of 2021, the councilors in the PP City Council, together with two defecting councilors from the PSOE, presented a motion of censure to remove from power the until then mayoress Rosa Vila (Compromís) and her government partners. . Since then and until the end of this legislature, the command of the consistory rests with Raúl Llobell, number one of the popular Teuladians.

Gata de Gorgos also granted more votes to the PP, but Compromís, which achieved 4 councilors, and PSPV-PSOE, with 3, formalized their alliance that gave the title of mayor to the Valencian Josep Signes Costa.

In Els Poblets, PSPV-PSOE (3 councilors), Compromís (2) and the Independent Party of European Residents, PIREE (1) reissued the government pact granting the socialist Carolina Vives the title of first mayor of the town to the detriment of the PP, which had gathered more votes and 4 councilors.

The then PP of Ana Sala In Calp, for example, he had to revalidate his leadership in the coastal town for the third consecutive legislature, offering a government agreement to Ciudadanos, with Juan Manuel del Pino to the head. In this way, he left the left-wing bloc, PSPV-PSOE (6), Compromís (2) and Defendamos Calpe (2), without room for maneuver to add 11 councilors and revalidate the mayoralty so far.
