Compromís Teulada Moraira has sent a letter to the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, following the recent declaration by the Public Health Center that classifies the municipality's water as unfit for consumption in two of its four areas.
In the letter, Compromís thanks the visit that Mazón made today to the town and his attention to local farmers, who face an "unprecedented crisis." However, the political group expresses its concern about the management of the City Council, governed by the Popular Party, on crucial issues such as water supply, cleaning, agriculture and housing.
The most pressing problem is the lack of drinking water for residents, a situation that has been addressed with solutions "such as praying to the gods, but without calling any meeting with the entire corporation, or establishing any work table to manage the crisis," have emphasized.
Faced with this situation, Compromís has proposed a series of measures that They will be debated in an extraordinary plenary session this Friday, at 09:30 a.m., waiting for the president to act as "mediator so that they are approved and applied for the good of our municipality":
- Suspension of the water bill. Compromís proposes to temporarily suspend water billing to affected residents until the crisis is resolved, to alleviate the economic burden of affected families and businesses.
- Installation of drinking water distribution points. Establish drinking water distribution points in accessible and operational locations 24 hours a day to guarantee continuous access for all citizens.
- Water infrastructure modernization plan. Develop an immediate plan for the modernization of water infrastructure, including the repair of pipes, the construction of new tanks and the installation of efficient control and management systems.
- Restrictions to avoid water waste. Implement strict measures to prevent unnecessary water use, such as temporarily banning filling private swimming pools and watering gardens daily.
- Elimination of the sanitation fee. Eliminate the sanitation fee for homes not connected to the sewage network, considered unfair by Compromís especially in the current circumstances.
In addition to these measures, Compromís urges Mazón to reconsider projects that could have a negative impact on the municipality, "such as the construction of hotels 100 meters from the coast and the new coastal law, which unprotects the coastline."
The group also requests greater support for the local agricultural sector, recalling the subsidy of 500.000 euros achieved thanks to Compromís, but underlining the need to take measures such as "unblocking the payment of pending aid, starting others and a future plan that puts the sector agrarian in the center as a fundamental way of life. We cannot continue changing vines for solar panels or agricultural fields for chalets," they conclude.
