The Socialist Group and that of Compromís in the Alicante Provincial Council, have accused the government team in the provincial institution, chaired by the leader of the PP, Carlos Mazón, of "Boycott the Municipal Cooperation Fund of the Valencian Community". For the Marina Alta region, this rejection represents, as explained by both groups, a reduction of 10.428.064 euros, in five years, in direct aid and with freedom of investment by the municipalities. This year, the amount that the county will cease to receive from the Provincial Council will be almost 2 million euros.
The Socialist Group and the Compromís Group in the Alicante Provincial Council accuse Carlos Mazón's government team of "reducing the freedom of the municipalities, denying funds that the towns could allocate autonomously to their priorities"
“We will protest against the drift of the government of the Alicante Provincial Council”
The socialist deputy Óscar Mengual, points out that, in addition to the funds that do not arrive, "the towns are suffering the consequences of a PP management that has collapsed the projects and works that have to reach the towns." For his part, Gerard Fullana, spokesman for Compromis in the Provincial Council, points out that next Friday's rally "we will protest against the drift of the Alicante Provincial Government, which is summarized in three elements: chaos, corruption and permanent conflict."
In this sense, as announced by the spokespersons of both groups in the Diputación -Toni Francés (PSPV-PSOE) and Gerard Fullana (Compromís) -, it will be next April 30, when the municipal representatives of both formations will focus on the door of their municipalities to claim the participation of the Provincial Council in the Cooperation Fund, as well as better management of plans for municipalities. And it is that, according to PSPV and Compromís, this rejection of the Fund supposes, in five years, an accumulated loss of funds for all the municipalities of the province of 68 million euros.
"We will gather at the door of the town halls next Friday to protest against the drift of the Provincial government"
For the Socialist deputy from the Marina Alta region, Óscar Mengual, the decision of the Popular Party headed by Carlos Mazón not to join the Fund, “is a direct attack on the freedom of the municipalities to decide what the funds are to be used for. We have the support of the Generalitat with this type of aid, on the other hand, the Provincial Council is hurting us a lot with this blockade ”.
For Mengual, it is frustrating for the municipalities of the Marina Alta to see how “just a few kilometers away we have the municipalities of Valencia that receive twice as much as we do for these funds, because the Valencia Provincial Council helps them. Here, with the Popular Party, we are deprived of freedom. For five years we have had a Provincial Council that is insensitive to our needs, you just have to see the chaos of Mazón in the management of the plans, with delays in aid such as the Resistir plan, with works and projects that go on for years and years. These delays in management penalize especially small municipalities, having to wait before the drafting of works projects by the Provincial Council ”, Mengual stressed.
For his part, the spokesman for Compromís in the Provincial Council, Gerard Fullana, has reported that the councilors of the Marina Alta “will focus on the door of the town halls next Friday. Basically to protest against the drift of the government of the Diputación de Alicante, which is summarized in three elements: chaos, corruption and permanent conflict ”.
For Fullana, “we speak of chaos because there are more than a thousand works paralyzed, because we receive much less aid than the rest of the councils are giving; corruption due to the continuous scandals that arise in the Alicante Provincial Council or due to the fact of changing mayors through the purchase of turncoats, an element that we are seeing first-hand in the Marina Alta ”, adding to this“ the conflict, to recover the happened in elements such as water or in conflicts and very traditional attitudes of what was zaplanismo and that, now, has returned ”.
