The Portal de Sala is the only one of the three entrances to the wall that is still preserved. It communicated the town with the area of the orchards.
In the Muslim period, Pego had a walled enclosure that was expanded from 1291 to protect the Christian settlers who arrived from Catalonia. During the War of Succession (in the XNUMXth century) the walls were almost completely destroyed. They had sixteen towers. On some of the streets of the historic center there are remains integrated into current buildings.
