Why do your gums bleed? Find out and solve the problem

26 December 2024 - 12: 19

Bleeding gums are an alarm signal that we should not ignore. The main cause is usually the gingivitis, an inflammation caused by the accumulation of bacterial plaque on teeth and gums. If not removed properly, this plaque releases toxins that irritate the gums, causing redness, swelling and bleeding.

La gingivitisIf not treated in time, periodontitis can develop into a more serious disease, which can weaken the bone supporting the teeth, even leading to tooth loss.

Factors riesgo

In addition to poor oral hygiene, there are other factors that increase the likelihood of developing gingivitis:

  • Using orthodontic appliances without proper care.
  • Uncontrolled diabetes.
  • Hormonal changes such as pregnancy or menstruation.
  • Stress and smoking, the latter being one of the most aggressive.

How to prevent gingivitis?

  • Brush your teeth and gums in circular motions.
  • Use dental floss or interproximal brushes.
  • Change your brush every 3-4 months.
  • If you notice bleeding, be sure to brush your teeth and visit your dentist for a checkup.

Good oral hygiene and regular check-ups are key to maintaining healthy gums and preventing major problems. Don't put it off!
