Pego is preparing to celebrate the traditional Sant Antoni festivities this weekend, organised by the Town Hall and the Els Carreters Sports Club. The celebrations will begin on Friday, coinciding with Saint Anthony's Day, and will include a series of activities designed for all ages.
On Friday afternoon, at 16:30 pm, a mass will be held in honour of the patron saint of animals at the hermitage of Sant Antoni. The traditional Porrat will be set up near the temple, with stalls that will delight both children and adults.
On Saturday morning, the Els Carreters Sports Club will hold the traditional 'baixà del pi'. At midday, the club members will cut down a pine tree and transport it from Calvari to Pla de la Font, using several horses to pull it. At this point, attendees will be able to enjoy a popular snack. In the evening, from 20:00 p.m., the Sant Antoni bonfire will be lit, one of the most eagerly awaited moments of the festival.
On Sunday, the day will begin with the pilgrimage in honour of Sant Antoni, organised by Els Carreters. The route will start at 10:00 am from Pla de la Font and will follow an itinerary that includes the streets of Sant Agustí, Llavador, Fray Francisco Peris, Atzúbia, Avenida de Alcoi, Avenida de València, Calle Aduanes, Sant Miquel, Ecce Homo, Plaça Ajuntament, Calle Mayor, Avenida Jaume I, Calle Mar and Camí Sant Antoni, until reaching the hermitage.
At 11:00 a.m., a mass will be held in honour of the patron saint of animals, followed by the blessing of pets. Throughout the day on Sunday, attendees will be able to enjoy the Porrat again in the vicinity of the chapel.
