Héctor Illueca, Second Vice President and Minister of Housing and Bioclimatic Architecture, and Enrique Moll, Mayor of Pego, had a meeting in order to analyze the urban regeneration actions of the old town of Pegolí. They were accompanied at the meeting by the General Director of Housing and Urban Regeneration, Elena Azcárraga.
Illueca thanked the mayor and the government team for their welcome at a meeting that has served "to explore the interventions of the Second Vice Presidency in this municipality" and has promised to "work hard to make these projects a reality".
The vice president explained that "little by little the historical heritage and urban centers are recovering their central role in the articulation of the municipalities" of the Valencian Community. "They do it not only as a tourist attraction but, above all, as built-up areas that citizens claim again as spaces for public and private life."
In that sense, he recalled that the Second Vice Presidency is developing a whole series of actions aimed at revitalizing the centers of the municipalities through urban actions. Illueca has invited the municipal team to present themselves at the next call for this plan for 2023.
Likewise, it has encouraged them to opt for new calls for European funds both at the building and neighborhood level, depending on the action designated by the Pego City Council.
The revitalization of historic centers is "a strategic objective of the Vice Presidency that now, with the arrival of European funds, has taken a huge boost with the initial nearly 100 million, expandable to more than 300, that we will channel in this exercise" , declared Héctor Illueca. For all this, "today we begin an alliance and a commitment of the Generalitat with the municipality and the citizens of Pego".
For his part, the mayor has shown his satisfaction with this meeting, which he has described as productive and has opted for policies to "make a town that is sustainable, friendly, safe, efficient and respectful of the environment". Hence his interest in "reforming and maintaining, before expanding". For this, he has commented that he is already working on projects to rehabilitate public buildings, adapt streets and urban regeneration areas.
