Pego will achieve energy savings of 81% by replacing all municipal lighting

11 July 2022 - 13: 03

Thanks to the Low Carbon Economy subsidies in Local Entities from the Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE) through the European Fund and the one financed by the Valencià Institute of Business Competitiveness, Pego will be able to renew all the lighting in the municipality. At the moment, 50% of the luminaires in question have already been replaced.

These are two grants for the installation of more efficient and lower power luminaires, with which the town will be able to reduce energy costs. With both, the municipality will receive a total of 648.940 euros.

With the first of the two subsidies (474.940 euros), for an amount of 474.940 euros, a total of 542 existing lights in the town will be replaced and all the control panels available to Pego will be adapted. With the rest of the amount, coming from the second subsidy (174.000 euros), 348 lampposts will be improved.

Replacement of luminaire and wiring in poor condition

Those replaced will be made by new LED technology that will have lighting level reduction by means of multilevel equipment to adjust it according to the different night schedules and the different types of roads.

In addition, the existing wiring that is in poor condition will be replaced and new wiring will be installed to unify between nearby facilities. "The objective is to reduce the cost of the contracted power and thus improve the control of the facilities and their billing", explains the mayor of Urban Planning, Laura Castellà.

In fact, the council has already renovated 1.291 lampposts of the 2.181 that the municipality of Pegolino has in recent years. It has also done so through various grants from IVACE from 2017 to 2021.

Once the entire renovation process of the 2.181 luminaires in the municipality is completed, the power will be reduced from 355,6 KW to 92,53 KW, and an estimated energy saving of 81% will be achieved. The saving in the economic section is also notable. In these six years of interventions, 57% have been saved on electricity bills. It has been possible to reduce from 219.233,10 euros (in 2015) to 93.554,21 euros in 2021. “It should be remembered that a significant percentage of the luminaires still need to be changed, so the savings will be even greater once all the work has been completed. renovation”, points out the councilor for Urbanism.

Once achieved, "we will be a people more committed to the environment, increasing efficiency and sustainability, lines that this government team has always marked as the route to follow", concludes the mayor.
