The Mediaprop project of the Ministry of Justice, Interior and Public Administration arrives in Pego this coming October 5. It is a service that aims to facilitate the mediation of various conflicts between neighbors.
The joint proposal between the City Council and the Alicante Platform of Mediators of Alicante (PAPM) will have a team of three intermediaries. These people will cover the service, every week two of them, trying to put an end to conflicts such as noise disturbances between neighbors; problems due to the use of public space; bad smells; animal nuisances; furniture damage; mediations in the family, intergenerational, between siblings, care for the elderly and minors, among others; or mediation with minors both in the school environment and outside it. "The mediator tries to get both parties to reach an agreement without it reaching a sentence or trial," explains the Councilor for Social Services, Merxe Bolta.
Although the number of conflicts with which this new figure can mediate is vast, there are some problems in which it will not be able to intervene in this way, "only advise and refer to other resources". Issues such as gender violence, conflicts arising from the mental illness of one of the parties, conflicts in which it is intended to seek the guilt of one of the parties, conflicts in which beliefs and values annul the individual autonomy of any of the the parts.
The mediators will assist the neighbors, by appointment, one day a week from 09:30 to 14:00 at the facilities of the Mancomunitat de Pego i Les Valls. This service will be open for the next three months (from October to December, the latter included) and will cost 6.000 euros, fully financed by the Ministry of Justice, Interior and Public Administration.
