Pedreguer leads the way with an unprecedented abolitionist ordinance

February 04 from 2025 - 17: 17

The plenary session of the Pedreguer City Council has unanimously approved the first municipal ordinance for the abolition of prostitution, a pioneering document in the municipality that strengthens the coordination of resources, prevents the re-victimization of female victims and adapts the intervention to the local reality. This ordinance is a fundamental tool to establish a clear framework for action in the fight against sexual exploitation, guaranteeing a coordinated and effective response by municipal institutions and resources.

The ordinance is the result of collective work in which different municipal agents have participated, including the Local Police, the Department of Equality and other social and institutional services. The document is based on the model of the Ministry, but introduces modifications to guarantee a more effective application in Pedreguer and to better adapt to the local reality.

Among the most notable aspects is Article 6, which emphasizes the need for coordination between resources and the protection of women in situations of prostitution and sexual exploitation, ensuring that they are not re-victimized in the process. Likewise, the sanctioning regime has been strengthened in Article 7 and a commitment has been made to implement a practical municipal work plan that can be applied at the local level.

This ordinance is part of the commitment of the Pedreguer City Council to promote actions that raise awareness about the violence against women in prostitution and the need to address this reality from an abolitionist perspective. In this sense, for years, the municipality has organized conferences to debate and reflect on this problem. The next edition, which will be the fourth, will take place on April 5 and will feature the presence of the philosopher Mónica Alario, author of the book Sexual politics of pornographyOther speakers will be confirmed in the coming months and the final poster for the event will be published.

With the approval of this ordinance and the continuation of these awareness-raising days, Pedreguer takes a firm step towards the abolition of prostitution, reaffirming its commitment to the fight against sexual exploitation and the protection of women's rights.
