Pedreguer participated, on November 30, in the Castelló Ecoforum, organized by the Jaume I University. The Pedreguer City Council participated in the conference to explain and value the new waste collection and street cleaning system in Vila de Pedreguer. The event was chaired and accompanied by the Regional Minister, Mireia Mollà, the Regional Minister, Arcadi Spain and the General Director, Joan Piquer.
In the presentation, Vicent Garcia, head of Fovasa in Pedreguer and the spokesman for the government team, Ferran Lloret, explained how they began to work with the City Council in the development of a pioneering service capable of meeting the needs and expectations of the municipality of more 8000 inhabitants, as well as to improve the separation ratios at origin in accordance with the high standards set by the regional, state and European regulations that are included in the SDGs of the 2030 agenda.
Throughout the exhibition, the results obtained since August 16, the day on which the new system was put into operation, were valued. The results speak for themselves: the organic fraction already represents more than 40% of the waste that is collected separately, seeing an exponential increase, month by month, since its start-up. Furthermore, the subtraction fraction is below 20%, very close to the parameters required by the European Union.
In general, all the fractions, with the exception of the rest (which decreases), see their percentages increased with this totally personalized collection system. Although the general results through this system are very good, they still allow a wide improvement to the contribution points that serve the disseminated and urbanizations. Since its incorporation, the organic fraction has been considerably increased and Pedreguer's objective is to achieve the same percentage as the door-to-door applied to the entire urban area.
Another reference that they remarked was that, in the future, this system would reduce the costs of waste treatment. Because by reducing the rest, which is the most expensive fraction to treat, and increasing the different fractions, the price paid by the council to manage waste will decrease.
During the presentation, the spokesperson stressed that "we are on the right track and we will soon achieve, together with the collaboration of all the neighbourhood, the objective of reducing the remaining fraction to just 20% of the total waste collected."
The Pedreguer City Council has planned another appointment with the efficiency in the collection of waste, since it organizes for next Thursday, December 16, the I Symposium on High Efficiency Models in Municipal Waste Management, in which they will participate, among others , Paula Tuzón, Regional Secretary for Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition, and will present their experiences, in addition to the hosts, the Banyeres City Council and the Ribera Alta Mancomunidad.
