Opinion Miguel Ángel García: «A distorted concept of transparency»

04 October 2022 - 10: 18

The opposition has started its particular electoral campaign faithful to its style: looking for anger, launching lies and resorting to insults. Desperate for their complete lack of arguments, they falsely accuse us of lack of transparency. All files are at your disposal. They want to hide their lack of commitment to the people and their lack of ideas and work.

Yes, we say lack of work because in a complex legislature, in which we have all faced very hard times due to the pandemic, they have not collaborated at all. Neither a proposal, nor a simple “do you need something?”. What has been minimal interest and help for the good of the people in the hardest times, those in which they should have put the safety and well-being of people above all else.

Not only were they very far from building bridges, but they also evaded their responsibility to attend the plenary sessions. They spent more than two years, from February 2020 to May 2022, without attending a plenary session. According to them, for the simple excuse of being telematics.

They had two years to ask and take an interest in the affairs of the pobleros and pobleras, in the situation of the City Council and the projects under way, and now they have come to give lessons in transparency and decency. They denounce the attitude of this mayor in the plenary sessions, accusing him of hindering his interventions. Well, let them be very clear that the local government is not willing to turn them into a circus, as was the session in May. In it, the councilor Manolo Segarra said (1h and 14 minutes of the recording), shouting and in bad manners: "You do the Indian", and later turned to the companion Maria José Ivars to tell her "not you the Indian, you you do other things.”

It was shameful and intolerable, and in the plenary session last Thursday the only thing we did was stop their feet to avoid disqualifications and insults, sticking to what the regulations say that a plenary session should function: with interventions by each group spokesperson and with concise and direct questions or pleas, not with rallies
politicians.

We do not want our neighbors to be ashamed of their representatives. We are not going to get into the rag. We will not fall into that trap. Mr. Femenía should remember and review the newspaper library. There are the thousand tricks that he used to cling to power. Among them, being nine months without holding a plenary session. That is the concept of transparency that they now champion.

They allude to municipal contracts and try to tarnish what has been correcting their disastrous legacy. They left a city council in fraud of law, it must be said loud and clear, and now they accuse us of regularizing the workforce and correcting flagrant injustices and illegalities. Mr. Josep Femenía should reflect and review the inheritance
poisoned that he left this town and his stubbornness when trying to cling to the position using immoral tricks. Yes, we give you the reason that in this council now politics is done, but politics in its most coherent and vindicatable sense, that of seeking the common good and the progress of our people. That's your concept of
transparency.

We have made decisions, we have sought solutions to solve the lack of parking in our urban area (an objective that lies behind other urban regeneration projects completed and promoted during this legislature). Opening new car parks has been a priority. We have worked hard and against the clock. Don't worry about the opposition. They will have all the information, they already have it, in fact. I would ask them not to launch veiled accusations, or resort to that dirty old ploy of casting insidious suspicion.

From the school, they know very well that the works of the Edificant plan take time and that public works also pose many difficulties. Mr. Femenia has been mayor and there were barracks. What did he do to eliminate them? The answer is resounding: NOTHING.

The opposition is in a great hurry to start the electoral campaign. He wants us to engage in sterile debates. He wants to hide that they have been missing throughout the legislature, that they have not collaborated in anything or in the most difficult moments.

Legislature remains, they are not going to mislead us or separate us from our commitment to work and management. The campaign is coming. Meanwhile, we will continue to work hard for our neighbors and beyond them with their entanglements and destructive strategies.

Government team of Poble Nou de Benitatxell.
