From July 22 to 30 will take place in Ondara Popular Festivities of Sant Jaume 2022, organized by the Department of Celebrations and Traditions of the City council of Ondara that directs Miguel Gomis.
They will be the first Sant Jaume Festivities to be held in Ondara normally and without restrictions after the pandemic. The last popular celebrations normally took place in 2019. In 2021, a cultural and bullfighting program was offered with capacity restrictions. This will not be the case this year, in which it will be possible to relive and enjoy a Sant Jaume like before, with all the usual acts and events.
The presentation of the Popular Festivities of Sant Jaume 2022, given the relevance of the act, has been massive and today has had the presence of the Mayor, José Ramiro; the Councilor for Festivals and Traditions, Miguel Gomis; the Department for the Elderly, Mª Carmen Velázquez; the Councilor for Culture and Equality, Raquel Mengual; the Councilor delegate of SINMA, Francesc Giner; the artist who has designed the cover of the Sant Jaume 2022 book, the painter Antonio Torres; the representatives of the Penya Taurina, and of the Commission of Bous d'Ondara, Paco Tormo and Javi Gómez; the coordinator of the Nit de Rock, Toni Miralles, and Josele Gascón from "The Liarla" (the Nit de Rock will star "Tropa do Carallo", Evaristo's new band from "La Polla Records", "Homo No Sapiens" , and the local group "The Liarla"). The Festivities of Sant Jaume 2022 will have this year with a total of 82 registered clubs, which will be located mainly in the three usual areas: Prado, Riu and O-30. In the case of the river, the works carried out to improve the area will not affect the location of the rocks. Precisely, these works represent one of the main novelties in terms of the entrances of the bulls. Calle Pintor Segrelles will be covered with whitewash from the Prado bridge to the trawl door to remove obstacles, save the sidewalks and the rakes on the steps. The new barriers for the entrances will be placed in this section diagonally for more security, making the area where runners and bulls access to the trawl door wider, as explained by José Ramiro. Another very striking novelty is that some stands will be placed so that the public can see the entrances of the bulls, with capacity for 80 people, in the area of the Prado bridge, towards Pintor Segrelles.

Ondara Town Hall has entrusted him with the creation of this artistic cover for this year's San Jaime festivities. Sant Jaume 2022 bullfighting program
As is traditional in the Popular Festivals of Sant Jaume, the bullfighting events will be one of the main centers of attention in the programming. The program is organized by the Comissió de Bous, keeping the acts that work the most. As explained by the representative of the Bous Commission, Javi Gómez, it has been returned to the usual programming from before the pandemic (resuming the bullfighting tickets that could not be done last year), and prominence has been given to the farms in the region. There will be bullfights and the release of heifers every day at the Plaza de Toros (afternoon and night); trimmer contest on Sunday, July 24; steers on Sant Jaume day (so that everyone over 16 years of age can participate); exhibition of four bull tickets on Wednesday 27; and in addition, there will be bullfighting in and out of the bullring on five occasions (Saturday 23rd, Monday 25th, Tuesday 26th, Friday 29th, and Saturday 30th) at night.
Aimed at the little ones, the "bous en carretons" performances, managed by the Bous Commission, stand out. There will be 5 "bous en carretons" performances, all at 19:15 p.m., on Saturday, July 23; Tuesday July 26, Thursday July 28; Friday July 29 and Saturday 30. The carts will leave from the Plaza de las Escuelas, for the enjoyment of the elderly people of the Residence.
Musicals: Rock&Moll, Nit de Rock, Verbenas and the novelties of the Festa Correpenyes
Once again, in this edition of the 2022 popular festivals, concerts are offered again at the Moll del Prado, on seven days of the festival, prior to the popular dinners (all are at 20:30 p.m.), according to informed the Councilor for Culture, Raquel Mengual. The Rock&Moll concerts will feature performances by Perversió (Saturday, July 23), Star on Years (Sunday, July 24), Loli Pop (Monday, July 25), Radio Players (Tuesday, July 26), Together and Scrambled (Wednesday, July 27 ), Elèctric Souls (Friday, July 29), and Second Comming (Saturday, July 30). It is a varied style of music, with groups from the region and the Valencian Community, and is aimed at all audiences. Raquel Mengual wanted to highlight that people really wanted to enjoy this musical proposal again after the pandemic.
The Nit del Rock de Sant Jaume 2022 will be on Sunday, July 24, starting at 00:00, and will take place in the car park on Nacions Sense Estat street. The coordinator of the event, Toni Miralles, has highlighted that Evaristo, the singer of the renowned group "La Polla Records", has been brought to Ondara with his new band "Tropa do Carallo". The Night of Rock will also star “Homo No Sapiens” (the singer is from Sanet); and by the local group "The Liarla", the spokesman of which, Josele Gascón, has highlighted that they really wanted to play again in Ondara.
Also in the musical section, the festivals of Sant Jaume 2022 will be in charge of No Comment on Friday, July 22 (after the proclamation); on Saturday, July 23, Empopados will perform (Carrer Sant Jaume); on Tuesday 25 July, the day of Saint James, "Titànic" will perform (carrer Sant Jaume), on Thursday 28, the day of the paellas (there will be a paella contest at night, which will be enlivened by the Xaranga l'Atril), will perform “Àgora” (to the Prado); and on Saturday, July 30, the last Saturday of the festivities, “La tribu” (Sant Jaume) will play. Two mobile disco will also be offered in the Ronda Generalitat; on Wednesday, July 27 at 01:00 a.m. and Friday, July 29, within the Festa Correpenyes (new this year), there will be a mobile disco at O-00 from 30:30 a.m.; "Blat" performance in the Riu area, and "Lol y Pop" performance in the Prado area. The Festa Correpenyes has been devised as an initiative for people to move around and go through all the peñas areas, in which there will be three musical performances simultaneously.
Shows and events for Seniors
The Councilor for Elderly People, Mª Carmen Velázquez, has announced that for them, at the Sant Jaume 2022 Festivities, the Catering Dinner and Dance for Elderly People will be held, which will take place on Sunday, July 24, from 22:XNUMX p.m. Sant Jaume street. It will feature a performance by the Duo Somnis (there will be tables and chairs).
In addition, two performances will be offered with orchestras for the elderly and dance; on Tuesday, July 26 at 23:20 p.m. (27 years of songs) and Wednesday, July XNUMX (Marina Boleros). The two performances will take place in Sant Jaume street and there will be chairs.
The sliding tracks of the Sant Jaume Day are back
One of the novelties of the last editions that, given its success, will be repeated again, will be the sliding tracks. On this occasion, two tracks will be installed: one of 75 meters, and another of 55 meters for the little ones. They will be installed on Monday, July 25, Dia de Sant Jaume, in the morning in the Baixada de la Puríssima and Baixada de la Plaça Major, to provide more animation in the traditional Dia de les Quintades (participants will have to bring a float or mat inflatable).
The Humoristic Rally for Peñas and Quintades will also continue this year, and will be held on Wednesday, July 27 at night, organized by L'Esgaratussa (2019 winner). She will be awarded with a first prize of 300 euros, second prize of 150 euros and best costume 75 euros.
children's activities
In the festive program, the activities aimed at children and families stand out. In this section there are several initiatives that will be carried out every day in the morning, around the Prado: on Saturday, July 23, a children's water park; on Sunday 24, ribbon race (compulsory helmet for minors); Monday 25 (Sant Jaume's Day), two super sliding tracks; Tuesday 26, water park; Thursday 28, water games in the municipal pool with free admission; Friday 29, water park; and Saturday July 30, children's water park. In this way, activity is provided every morning during the week of Sant Jaume festivities. In addition, on Sunday, July 24, there will be a children's theater at 23:XNUMX p.m., with the play “Aventura Pirata” in the Riu area.
Party games to the Municipal Trinquet
In the sports section, the games of professionals of Valencian pelota of Escala i Corda will stand out at 18:30 p.m. at the Trinquet Municipal de Ondara for Saturday 23 and Thursday 28 (after the Final of the Torneig de Penyes, the Semifinal will be played Diputación Cup, with free admission), in addition to the Torneig de Pilota de Sant Jaume 2022 supporters club games, which will be played on July 26, 27 and 28 at 17:XNUMX p.m. at the Trinquet, in the Raspall i Rebotet modalities (new this year).
Equality in the fiestas of Sant Jaume
The Councilor for Equality, Raquel Mengual, has advanced that a campaign against sexist attacks will be carried out during the festivities with the aim of preventing and raising awareness among citizens, so that everyone can enjoy non-sexist festivities and without violence. At parties, “Puntos Violeta” will be installed.
SINMA campaign during the holidays
The SINMA Councilor, Francesc Giner, has announced the actions that will be carried out by SINMA (municipal company in charge of waste collection) in Sant Jaume. The intention pursued by the municipal companies is to make aspects such as sustainability, appreciation of the environment and the promotion of recycling visible on these dates of the popular festivals, and for these reasons the provision of containers will be improved in some of spaces and their signage. Each area of supporters clubs (Prado, Pintor Segrelles and Ronda Generalitat) will have a complete supply of air containers (organic, glass, plastics and packaging, paper and cardboard). It will also be equipped with more litter bins in the busiest areas. Every day of the Holidays there will be a garbage collection service; in the area of gambling dens from 6 am, and also from that time in the door-to-door collection.
Parties at PAMIS
Miguel Gomis has taken the opportunity to advance that the weekend following the end of Sant Jaume, on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th August, the festivities will be held in Pamis with popular dinners, festivals, a children's water park, a paella contest, a foam, wheelbarrow and steers. As a novelty, there will be one more day of steers (Friday morning).
