Ondara commemorates Human Rights Day with activities focused on the conflict in Palestine and Israel

10 December 2024 - 18: 29

The IES Xebic in Ondara is carrying out an interdisciplinary project promoted by the institute's Democratic Memory Commission, focusing this term on the conflict between Palestine and Israel. The activities organised seek to establish parallels between this current problem and the Spanish civil war, involving both the educational centre and the Casa de la Cultura. The Education Department of the Ondara Town Council, led by Rosa Ana Marí, has collaborated with the initiative by joining in the commemoration of Human Rights Day, celebrated today, Tuesday, December 10.

Among the initiatives developed, the exhibition was inaugurated yesterday at the House of Culture Pencils, paper and bombs, provided by the University of Alicante. The exhibition will be open until December 20 and has already been visited by sixth grade students, who showed great interest and commitment to the activities organized around the drawings made by children who suffered during the Spanish Civil War.

This alternative form of learning complements classroom programming, promoting emotional connections with current conflicts. School visits will continue until December 18, including students from IES Xebic as part of the Guernika-Gaza interdisciplinary project.

In addition, yesterday afternoon a round table entitled "The Cultural Center" was held at the House of Culture Understanding Palestine-Israel and how to act in light of the Gaza genocide. Open to all citizens, the panel included interventions by Jorge Ramos Tolosa, Rosa de Falastin Mustafà and Jaume Sendra Galán.

The speakers offered a broad and interesting perspective on the conflict, covering history, personal experiences and international legal aspects. They analysed the causes that have led to the genocide of the Palestinian population for more than 100 years, with an emphasis on the current situation in the Gaza Strip.
