The residents of Marina Alta, associations, town councils and organisations have been working hard in recent days to send tons of aid to the municipalities hit hard by the DANA in Valencia. The support network for the collection and delivery of essential materials and products has marked the last few days in the towns.
The collection points, located in various towns, have been updating over the days what was being requested to a greater or lesser extent depending on the needs of those affected. Waves of solidarity have landed in Valencia from different points, not only from the Valencian Community.
Much of the aid has been delivered to towns such as Paiporta, Alfafar, Sedaví, Catarroja and Benetússer, among other affected areas. Towns such as Dénia, Xàbia, Benissa, Calp, Ondara, El Verger, Els Poblets, Teulada Moraira, Gata de Gorgos, Vall de Gallinera, El Poble Nou de Benitatxell have dedicated their efforts through volunteers to contribute their grain of sand to the neighboring catastrophe. Although there has been no corner left in the Marina Alta without sending the necessary help.
Various authorities have also been on the scene to deliver all the money collected, as well as to help clean up the towns devastated on Tuesday 29 October. Numerous private companies have collaborated in sending the machinery needed to clear the streets.
Minutes of silence in the town halls of the region
In support and solidarity with the call issued by the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP), the various town councils and administrations of the Marina Alta have called for five minutes of silence in memory of the 213 fatal victims of the DANA, counted so far.
The Alicante Fire Departments relieve each other
Since the morning of October 30, firefighters from the Marina Alta have been traveling non-stop to Valencia to help with the rescue work for the citizens. According to the Provincial Consortium, the teams are being relieved every day with the same team coming from each operational area.
There are eight active units, one each from Marina Alta, Marina Baixa, La Montaña de Cocentaina, Vinalopó, Vega Baja, Torrevieja de la Vega sur, Baix Vinalopó and l'Alacantí. In addition, two crane trucks, a communications vehicle, eight heavy forest fire engines, five personnel transport vehicles and seven command units remain in the area. The number of personnel is one officer, two non-commissioned officers, four sergeants, eight corporals and 40 firefighters.
César Alcaraz, an officer of the Provincial Firefighters Consortium of Alicante, from the Advanced Command Post deployed in Massanassa, has reported that his objective right now is to clear the streets to provide access to primary services.
He added that there are more teams bailing out garages, trying to access vehicles to check the interior and rule out the possibility of victims. "It is hard work and will take quite a while. We remain mobilised at the PMA until further notice from our colleagues in Valencia," he concluded in his statement this morning.
