Nine women from El Verger have combined their memories, their flavors, and their hands to bring this recipe book to life. Counting from the record, a project promoted by the City Council that includes 22 traditional dishes with the aim of preserving and promoting the local gastronomic richness.
Tonica, Conchi, Pepita, Ángeles, Elvira, Rosario, Fani, María del Mar, and Isa are the protagonists of this project, women who wanted to share their traditional recipes, those inherited from their mothers, so they wouldn't be forgotten. "It's a beautiful gesture that uncovers the local culinary heritage and connects us with our roots, allowing us to rediscover the flavors of yesteryear," said Tourism Councilor Reme Fructuoso during the book presentation.
The recipe book offers a varied selection of simple and more elaborate dishes, both savory and sweet, all made with local ingredients. Among the offerings are specialties such as pebrera en salmorra (peppers in brine), mullador amb espineta (spineapple with spinach), sang en ceba (sangreed), blat (flat bread), fabiola bescuit (beefcakes with fabiola), and ametla rosegons (rosegons with apricot).
In addition to the recipes, the book includes photographs of both the dishes and their creators, giving a face to each culinary story. At the presentation, Fructuoso presented each participant with a personalized apron as a thank you for their contribution.
