Children from Benissa reforest their surroundings with more than 700 seedlings for Tree Day

January 31 from 2025 - 13: 13

The Agriculture and Environment departments of Benissa Town Hall, headed by Celia Ausias, have launched an environmental education campaign to mark the celebration of Tree Day in the Valencian Community, which takes place on January 31.

As part of this initiative, more than 700 rosemary, mastic, palm and carob saplings have been distributed in the municipality's schools. In addition, planting days for these species are being carried out in different areas of the municipality. Councillor Celia Ausias has highlighted the good reception of the activity among the youngest: "We are seeing how the boys and girls are enjoying this activity very much. They learn, have fun and, in addition, become aware of the importance of caring for and protecting our environment."

Alongside the plantations, the Sembra Natura team and the municipal Forest Ranger are developing environmental education workshops, in which schoolchildren discover the great biological diversity of the environment. As part of the activity, wooden plaques have also been installed on the trees in the Manuel Bru school playground, with information about the variety and origin of each specimen.

Ausias has thanked the educational centres for their collaboration in the initiative, which seeks to promote respect for the environment from an early age. For his part, the mayor of Benissa, Arturo Poquet, has underlined the importance of continuing to promote actions for the protection of the municipality's natural heritage: "What better way to do this than by teaching our children the importance of caring for our environment."
