Green light in Pego for the 'Pego Golf' project

November 04 from 2022 - 10: 22

The City Council of Pego approved, yesterday, in plenary session, the bases to tender the 'Pego Golf' project with the votes in favor of the government team (PSPV and Ciudadanos Pego) and those of the opposition groups PP and Ciudadanos. While Compromís voted against.

The latter were yesterday the most critical in the plenary debate on this point. In their presentation, made public before the plenary session, they pointed out the existence “of inconsistencies in the programming bases for the indirect award of the 'Pego Golf' integrated action program”. One of them, they argued, was that in the document "they do not mention at any time the expiration of the Environmental Impact Statement (DIA) nor does it refer to its consequences according to the LOTUP, nor the State Environmental Assessment Law ”.

From Compromís they also pointed out that the Ministry of the Environment "responded that the DIA did not produce legal effects and had lost its validity without the need to formulate any express resolution of expiration".

On the other hand, the Compromís group insisted that "there is no documentary justification in the file that the situation has been communicated to all the owners of the land within the scope of the project to take charge or not of its management."

Faced with these statements from the government team, through the Councilor for Urban Planning, Laura Castellà, it was ensured that the aforementioned expiration of the project has not occurred, "the City Council has received a report ratified by technicians from the Department of Territorial Policy , Public Works and Mobility, where it is indicated that the DIA is valid indefinitely, because it is a partial plan and these, when approved, are valid indefinitely”. According to Castellà, "what is going to be done is the cancellation of the developer, to look for another, it does not mean that the project is cancelled".

The Town Planning councilor also remarked that the response on the validity of the DIA “by the Department of the Environment to a question from a Pegolino deputy, does not have any report from technicians that supports the response of the already former Minister Mireia Mollà; or at least the City Council has not received any report, as if the one from the Department of Urban Planning has arrived, which also answered a question from Compromís”.

Regarding the "non-communication" to the affected owners, Castellà assured that the council "has met with the association constituted 'Affected by the golf course', as well as with the large owners." The councilor explained that “until now no proposal has been received from her to take charge of the management. In addition, this City Council has ensured, with the bidding rules, that the owners charge a fair price for the sale of the properties”.

For his part, the mayor, Enrique Moll, clarified that the City Council "will follow the procedure that proceeds, going back would mean that the owners who have come to buy 600 hanegadas at 40.000 euros, would claim the loss of profits from the town hall, and there are many millions, it would mean seizing the people.”

The position of the government team was supported by the opposition groups PP and Ciudadanos (Cs). The councilor of Cs, Simón Ortolá, pointed out that the project “will bring benefits to the municipality. It is a project that can be made compatible with respect for agriculture”. For its part, the popular, through Ferran Gonzàlez, also highlighted "the benefits it will bring to the pegolinos and owners", Even so, the popular spokesman criticized that the initiative "comes too late".

Name for the new library

Another point that was debated in plenary was, again, the appointment of the new building that will house the public library. The Popular Party presented a motion so that, in addition to the options that can now be chosen through a popular vote: 'Carmel Giner' and 'Carmen Alemany Bay'; Cervantes' name can be added, "the name that the building has always had", argued the popular councilor.

For its part, Compromís also presented an amendment to the PP motion, in which it requested that a contribution of names be made by the residents of the town and that later they could vote among them, as long as they were names of pegolinos and pegolinas. Amendment that the Popular Party rejected.

Finally, the motion presented by the PP also did not have the necessary support to go ahead with the proposal.
