There are indelible memories. On 12 October 2007, the Marina Alta was the scene of the Girona River overflowing its banks. The flood inundated a large part of the region and the impact that this catastrophe had on the collective memory of the region was very profound.
Inevitably, the floods that occurred in the neighbouring regions of the province of Valencia have made citizens remember those difficult times. The images of that flood show the magnitude of the tragedy that affected towns such as Beniarbeig, Ondara, El Verger and Els Poblets.
The water swept away thousands of homes, the life of a resident of El Verger, and the Beniarbeig bridge collapsed, a moment that has become an icon of the disaster recorded by television cameras. The losses were immense.
Today, photographer Tino Calvo shares those memories captured by the tireless lens of his camera, attesting to moments that are impossible to erase.
