The towns of the Marina Alta that emigrate abroad the most

We recently learned what the official census of the Marina Alta was last year 2022. The population of the region has been on a growth trend since 2020, when the population figure stood at 178.203 registered people, according to the National Institute of Statistics. The latest count places this figure at 184.284 inhabitants. But, although the region adds inhabitants every year, there is also a small flight of these.

With this latest update of the register, the agency has also renewed the statistics that clarify the march of people registered in the Marina Alta to other countries.

Data from the register of Spaniards residing abroad indicate that the region is experiencing a trickle of emigrants. Although it is not scandalous, the number of people from the region who reside outside it has gone from 3.709 in 2012, to 7.188 people in 2022. These are a total of 3.191 people.

By municipalities

The total count of people from the region emigrated to other countries is more clearly evidenced by comparing the figures ten years apart. The following table shows the number of people who migrated from the region abroad in each of the towns that make it up.

Those who exceed the threshold of 40 emigrated people in a period of ten years are twelve: Benissa, El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, Calp, Dénia, Cat of Gorgos, Xàbia, Ondara, Pedreguer, Pego, Teulada Moraira, the Vall de Laguar and Xaló. Only two municipalities have recovered migrated inhabitants, l'Atzúbia one and Vall d'Ebo four.

Most of the municipalities that migrate the most abroad correspond to those with the largest population. However, two of them stand out as, despite having fewer inhabitants, they register a high rate of migration. They are the Vall de Laguar, with 41 people abroad from 2012 to 2022, and Xaló, with 181.
