The DOCS Alicante Gil-Albert awards dedicate a recognition to the documentary "L'Art de la Llata" by José Gayà

The documentary L'Art de la Llata, directed by the stonemason José Gayà and produced by Pau Soler, has received second prize in the first Alicante Documentary Awards (DOCS Alicante) contest of the Juan Gil-Albert Institute. This is an added recognition that the jury wanted to grant outside of the official winning categories.

"L'Art de la Llata"

The documentary focuses on the long tradition of the industry of the Can in the municipalities of Gata de Gorgos and Pedreguer. This audiovisual work was presented in 2021 to show the art of weaving palm leaves, to make baskets, hats and other everyday items that are part of the history of the Marina Alta.

Alicante Documentary Awards

The DOCS ALC, Alicante Documentary Awards, have been created by the Juan Gil-Albert Institute in order to encourage the production of documentaries and audiovisual pieces made by authors born or resident in the province. In addition, it also wants to recognize the work done to the best documentary productions on themes related to the province. A total of twenty works have been submitted to this first edition, which will soon hold an event to present the awards and screen the winning documentaries.

For its part, the empty box, by Luis Javier Falcó, has won the Best Documentary Award presented by an author born or resident in the province. While, The Bou Ferrer wreck in Vila Joiosa: an extraordinary site, produced by a team from the University of Alicante made up of José Antonio Moya, María Jesús Ortiz and Antonio Espinosa, has won the Best Documentary Award with themes related to the province.

The DOCS Alicante jury was made up of Julia Parra, vice-president of the Alicante Provincial Council and deputy for Culture, Pilar Tébar, director of the IAC, Israel Gil, from the UA Image Workshop, José Andreu, from the production company SuicaFilms, and Miquel González, director of the IAC Art Department.
