Last night, the fireworks display on Sant Vicent's Day in Teulada unleashed a dangerous fire, next to the cemetery, the sports area and the Teulada Moraira Auditorium of the town. The strong wind displaced some of the castle's caps, causing at least 3 initial outbreaks that affected areas of scrubland. The event began at 22:53 p.m. and the extinguishing team managed to stabilize the situation at 01:00 a.m. At 02:16 the fire was controlled, however, the intervention is still ongoing.
The wind in the area and the type of vegetation contributed to the rapid spread, which led to the preventive evacuation of some residents for fear that the fire would reach scattered homes. The fire finally reached the auditorium area, although the fire was controlled there at 23:49 p.m.
According to the preliminary report, approximately 2,5 hectares have been affected by the fire, in addition to a vehicle and a tool house where some pigeons unfortunately died. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the intervention.
In response to the emergency, members of the Local Police, Civil Guard and Civil Protection were deployed. The resources of the Alicante Provincial Firefighters Consortium included 2 Command and Headquarters Units, 2 Heavy Rural Pumps, 2 Heavy Forestry Pumps, 1 Heavy Mother Pump with specialized personnel, and a total of 10 firefighters from the fire parks. Dénia, Benissa and Benidorm. In addition, 2 Forest Firefighters Units collaborated to contain and extinguish the fire.
The Alicante Provincial Firefighters Consortium continues working in the area to ensure full control of the fire and avoid possible restarts.
