Yesterday marked one week since the fateful 29th of October, when after hours and hours of torrential rain the Magre River and the Poio ravine in the province of Valencia overflowed. From the Plana d'Utiel-Requena to the metropolitan area of Valencia, a tinge of mud, debris and rubbish continues to spread across some 70 municipalities. The search for 89 missing people continues, after counting 211 fatalities, according to provisional official figures.
It is impossible to predict how long the devastation experienced in the neighbouring regions will last. In the Marina Alta, waves of solidarity have been heading towards the affected villages since campaigns began to be organised to collect food, clothing, essential goods and material for the thorough cleaning of the devastated towns, as well as countless volunteers who have not hesitated to go there.
The reflection of the catastrophic DANA is also present in the region, where remains of the devastation have reached the coast. Last weekend, the rubbish dragged by the force of the sea was piling up in places such as La Marineta Cassiana, Les Rotes or les Deveses de DéniaLittle by little, the beaches are being cleaned of reeds, wood and objects where the horror is still evident.
