On the 28th of May, the citizens once again have an appointment with the polls to elect the municipal government that will be at the head of each City Council for the following four years.

An important appeal considering that the near future of each locality will be chosen. Although one of the indicators that best shows the strong disapproval of the citizenry with politics or a general lack of interest in the elections is electoral abstentionism.

According to the data collected by the Presidency of the Generalitat Valenciana regarding the 2019 electoral census and the final number of voters who came to exercise their right to vote in the municipal elections, the municipalities of the region presented, in general, a high level of of participation.

However, on May 26, 2019, two towns in the Marina Alta had a participation level of less than 50%. Were Calp, with an electoral census of 15.203 people, of whom 47,20% went to the polls, and Teulada Moraira, with 44,53% participation in the elections of the 8.004 people called.

Of the 33 towns in the Marina Alta, six had a participation greater than 50%. These towns that achieved a medium mobilization of citizens to elect the current Government team were Benissa, El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, Dénia, Xàbia, Llíber and Els Poblets.

But in the rest of the towns in the region, abstentionism was less significant. In seven municipalities, more than 60% of the registered population turned out to vote, in 14 towns participation exceeded 70%, in another three they passed 80% and only one achieved a vote. participation above 90%. This was Vall d'Alcalà, with a population census at that time of 146 people, of whom 133 went to vote.
