In a statement after the plenary session called to address the water issue in Teulada Moraira with two areas of the municipality without drinking water, Compromís stated that the objective of this session was to force the mayor to offer concrete explanations. They consider this objective partially achieved, "since the mayor has continued to make excuses for previous efforts without providing effective solutions," they have opined.
The members of Compromís regret that the distribution of bottled water was not immediately approved, "a measure that could have been implemented by the council if there had been political will," they have noted.
Regarding the points to be discussed in the plenary session, Compromís makes a list and comments on what was finally approved in the session of Municipality of Teulada Moraira:
- Demand explanations from the mayor: Compromís has requested detailed explanations about the causes of the water crisis and the measures adopted by the municipal government so far. The mayor, instead of offering concrete answers, has diverted attention by criticizing the management of the Compromís government during the years 2019-2020. However, Councilor Rosa Vila presented documentation showing that there were solutions planned to avoid this situation and that her government had worked on a great agreement with Xàbia that would guarantee the water supply.
- Approve the water bill at €0: In response to the lack of drinking water supply, Compromís proposed that the water bill during the affected period be set at zero cost for the citizens of Teulada and Moraira, as a compensation measure. It has been agreed to transfer this point to the Consortium and Hidraqua so that they can study their viability as competent bodies.
- Install and distribute drinking water: Given the persistence of the crisis, Compromís demanded the immediate installation of drinking water supply points in several areas of the municipality, as well as the distribution of bottled water in affected homes. This emergency measure aims to guarantee access to drinking water for the entire population. It has also been agreed to transfer this proposal to the Consortium and Hidraqua for their feasibility evaluation.
- Explanations on the situation of the Aguas Teulada-Poble Nou de Benitatxell Consortium: Finally, clear information has been required on the management and current status of the Aguas Teulada-Poble Nou de Benitatxell Consortium, with the aim of determining responsibilities and identifying solutions to long term to avoid future crises.
In addition, the plenary session was attended by the representative in the Compromís Congress, Águeda Micó, who stressed that the situation in Teulada and Moraira is an example of the urgency of taking measures against the water crisis that may affect other areas in the coming years. months. According to the Valencians, Micó committed to the citizens of the Marina Alta to demand that Pedro Sánchez's government immediately implement the necessary measures in water, urban planning and tourism to protect the territory from the consequences of the drought.
Deleted: In reference to the recent visit of Carlos Mazón, Micó highlighted that it is "unheard of" for the president to affirm that without a drought decree there are no subsidies, recalling that during the Botànic government aid was granted without the need for any decree. Micó concluded by announcing that Compromís has already registered the proposal so that the drought decree is signed as soon as possible.
Having just read your article, the situation becomes clear that nobody wants to take responsibility for this ongoing farce.
We live in a street in Teulada which the council claims is a private road. There are water leaks cropping up constantly along the entire length of the road & Hidraqua do not want to repair the “rusty, rotten & dangerous to health water pipes” as they get their instructions from the Town Hall to do so (or in this case , not to do so). As paying customers of Hidraqua it must surely be up to the water company to take & make the decisions for their customers well-being. There are more and more neighbors and friends (pets are included) in this area that have developed health problems due to the nonchalant attitude to this ongoing problem from the authorities. The town hall has now decided to put water tankers in various locations to collect free water. This is not getting to the root of the problem at all but just putting a plaster on an already infected, outdated & dangerous situation. Paying customers in the whole of Moraira-Teulada area should demand that the water company should be delivering the water from door to door as lots of people in the area are not able to collect it themselves. Please get your act together and put customers first instead of profits!!
