The fava poblera takes center stage next week in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. The municipality dedicates a festival to its star product, the Midjafava Fest 2025, and among the activities on its programme are the Bean Gastronomic Days.
From Tuesday, April 1st to Saturday, April 5th, a restaurant in the municipality will be preparing a special menu every day featuring a rice dish with fava beans. The most typical dish in El Poble Nou is arroz con fava pelà, a creamy rice dish made quite thick by the starch of the bean, cooked with dried and peeled fava beans (hence its name). It is characteristic of a few towns in the Marina Alta, such as Benitaxell. Xàbia or Poor Jesus. In the past, it was cooked for midday and a dish was saved for the evening, when the farmers who worked from sunrise to sunset would return home and eat "de recapte."
The gastronomic days will be started by the Antiquary Pizzeria (reservation phone: 966493620) on Tuesday 1st, followed by Restaurant La Cumbre (96 649 32 13) on Wednesday 2, Ca Toni Mònica (96 649 36 36) on Friday 4, and La Trillaora (647606784) will close on Saturday 5. To ensure proper service, prior reservation is required.
