The worst of the heat wave in the towns of the Marina Alta: when will the suffocating episode end?

12 June 2022 - 04: 57

The climatological summer already arrived with force on June 1, with the precedent of higher than normal temperature records at the end of May. Now, the region has been dragging a long week of high temperatures, which has become a heat wave that began a suffocating weekend, although the State Meteorological Agency officially marks the beginning today.

Yesterday, according to the Valencian Meteorological Association, the towns in the region with the highest temperature records were Pego (34,1ºC), l'Atzúbia (32,9ºC) and Ràfol d'Almúnia (32,5ºC).

When will the heat wave end in the region?

Predictions ensure that the worst of the heat wave will be experienced into the following week. The highest temperatures will arrive between Tuesday and Wednesday, with levels that could reach 40ºC in some points of the Marina Alta.

For its part, the second day of the week could be the most extreme. In this way, the municipalities that will experience the worst of the first summer heat wave will be Pego and l'Atzúbia, with 42ºC, and Vall de Gallinera, which will reach 40ºC.

But the rest of the towns will not be short either. Only seven (Dénia, Xàbia, Calp, Teulada-Moraira, Benissa, Benitatxell and Senija) will be between 30 and 35ºC. The rest of them will surpass them.

The AEMET foresees a duration of the episode of intense heat until next Wednesday, however, it does not rule out that it lasts for the rest of the week.
