The 2024th edition of the Musical Spring arrives in 21 at El Poble Nou de Benitatxell from April 26 to May XNUMX. Musical culture will thus fill the town this season with numerous proposals with free admission, which this year focus on the discipline of singing.
Cor and Orchestra of La Rectoria
The Musical Spring 2024 will start on Sunday, April 21 with the concert of the Cor i Orquestra de La Rectoria, which will perform the Requiem kv 626 by WA Mozart, the last and iconic work of the Austrian composer that he could not finish in 1791 when he died in December of that same year. It will be at 18:00 p.m. at the Santa María Magdalena Church.
The 60 voices of the choir will be joined by four exceptional soloists, the soprano Pepi Lloret, the mezzo-soprano Carla Mayer, the tenor José Martínez and the bass Carlos López Galarza, an orchestra of 22 instrumentalists with the outstanding concert pianist Josep Vicent Giner on the organ and its conductor Jaime Morell.
Founded in September 2005, the Cor de La Rectoria has developed an outstanding concert activity in the Valencian Community since its inception, participating in different festivals and concert cycles. Since 2012 it has closed all editions of the Festival Internacional d'Orgue de Pedreguer and since its creation, in 2008, it is the resident choir of the Música Sacra a La Rectoria concert series.
In 2014 he was invited to the participatory concerts organized by the Madrid Philharmonic Orchestra at the National Auditorium. Since the 2016/17 season he has collaborated regularly with various musical societies and orchestras in symphonic-choral programs in auditoriums such as the Palau de les Arts, and since 2016 he has organized, together with the organist Josep Vicent Giner, the participatory choral project The view and the orge.
Orfeó Universitari de València
The following weekend, April 28, it will be the turn of the Orfeó Universitari de València, which will perform at 18:00 p.m. in the church. Will interpret the program Beyond Estelles, a work that aims to remember and pay tribute to the poet from Burjassot in the celebration of the centenary of his birth, while at the same time putting it in context and remembering that generation of writers who decided to write in Valencian in some very complicated moments, to dignify the language and give us a lot of high quality literature.
Founded in 1947 within the University of Valencia, the Orfeó Universitari de València is made up of students, graduates and professors. The directors have been Jesús Ribera (1947-1971), Eduardo Cifre (1972-1997), Josep Ramon Gil-Tárrega (1998-2004), Constantino Martínez-Orts (2005-2011) and, since 2012, Francesc Valldecabres.
It has won first prize in all editions of the National University Choir Competition, has been selected among the best in the world and has participated in international university choir festivals held in Lille, New York, Coimbra, Manila, Rome, Poznan, etc. . He has toured France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Austria, Portugal, Russia, USA, India, Philippines, China, Romania, Norway, etc. He has recorded some thirty albums of choral music of the most varied styles and holds the Maximum University Decoration on a collective basis and the Laurel Leaf of Culture of the Valencian Press Association, the Distinction of l'Orde de Jaume I, the High Distinction of the Generalitat Valenciana or the Gold Medal of the City of Valencia, among other distinctions.
OMA – Marina Alta Orchestra
After a few weeks of hiatus during the La Rosa festivities, the concerts will return on Sunday, May 19 with the proposal of the OMA – Marina Alta Orchestra, which will perform at 18:00 p.m. in the church. The OMA was created in 1998 (last year it celebrated its 25th anniversary) by the orchestra director Francesc Estévez with the aim of covering an important gap in the culture of the Marina Alta region.
To date he has performed more than 550 concerts, highlighting the one at the Palau de la Música in Valencia, the Auditorium of the Superior Conservatory of Music in Palma de Mallorca, the Teruel Cathedral and the concert and opera season in Alcoi. He has also recorded various CDs such as the Opera Recital with the tenor José Sempere, the Little Night Serenade or compositions such as the Hymn of the Marina Alta.
Santa María Magdalena Municipal Music Group
The cycle will close with the great concert that the Santa María Magdalena Municipal Music Group has prepared for the occasion on Sunday, May 26, at 18:00 p.m., in the Plaza de la Iglesia. Together with the musicians of the Band and its director, Manuel Alejandro Romero, the students of the Choral Ensemble of the Municipal School of Music of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell and Petit Ars de Xàbia.
