February 05 from 2025 - 15: 43

The Ondara Athletics Club and the Sports Department of the Ondara City Council have organized the XV Gegant de Pedra mountain race and walk for Sunday, February 16, 2025, which will run through the Sierra de Segaria.

The race can be done on foot or running through the beautiful natural setting of the Segària mountain range. Runners can choose between running 15 or 20 kilometres; while for walkers, the race will be 15 kilometres. The event was presented this morning at the exact location of the start and finish, in the Rau River in Segària Park, with the participation of the Councillor for Sports of the Ondara Town Council, Jordi Ruiz; representatives of the Ondara Athletics Club, Miguel Moreno as president of the Club, Pep Giner as technical director of the event and the Head of the Local Police, Toni Galiano.

It is worth noting that the XV Gigante de Piedra will be included in the VII Circuito Trail la Marina, which is made up of 13 races in 13 towns in the Marina Alta and Baixa (Benigembla, Gata de Gorgos, Calpe, Callosa, Polop de la Marina, Pedreguer, Ondara, Orba, Senija, Forna, Pego. Races that started in October 2024 and will end in May of this year 2025.

According to the organisers Pep Giner, this year, the Gegant de Pedra 2025 will come with several new features: to start with, the start and finish of the three events will be in front of the Rau River in the Segària Park, just below the Hostels. In addition, the routes of the three events will change completely; the hikers' and Sprint Trail (15kms), which has not gone all the way around Segària for 7 editions, will do so again, and will pass through the Cova Fosca, the Parc del Verger and Font de Català, where they had not passed for years, then Benimeli, Pouets, Mina de Beniarbeig and will return to the Riu Rau in the Parc de Segària d'Ondara.

The Half Marathon, now 20km long, also changes the direction of the route, heading towards Cova Fosca, Parc del Verger, etc., while maintaining the legendary climb to Bolumini and Portell de Beniarbeig. It will also pass through Poblat Íber, which had not been passed for years. On the other hand, in 2025 none of the three races will touch the asphalt road used to reach the old Ondara shooting range, which will make it easier for all participants to arrive by car to the areas designated as parking lots.

The registration fee is 22 euros for a 20 km run, 18 euros for a 15 km run and 15 euros for a 15 km walk. The start will be at 8:30 am on Sunday 16 February for runners doing 20 kilometres, at 9:00 am for runners doing 15 kilometres and at 9:05 am for walkers (15 km). Participants will travel the entire Sierra de Segària, passing through the municipalities of Ondara, El Verger, Ràfol, Benimeli and Beniarbeig.

Registration for the XV Gigante can be done online on the mychip website at the link and also in person at the Allianz insurance office in Ondara (Avinguda Doctor Fleming 36)

The 15th Stone Giant is organised by the Ondara Athletics Club and the Ondara Town Council, with the collaboration of Civil Protection, Local Police, the Ondara Hiking Centre and the Town Councils of Benimeli, Beniarbeig, Ràfol de Almúnia and El Verger.
