The Smart Office of Benissa Town Hall has been selected as a finalist in the awards that recognise the technological solutions and tools implemented in tourist destinations that contribute to the progress towards their transformation into Smart Tourist Destinations (DTI), and which will be presented by the Alliance of Tourist Municipalities of Sun and Beach (AMT) together with the Hotel Technology Institute (ITH) this afternoon at FITUR 2025.
The Benissa Smart Office is an action reflected in the 2021 Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan (PSTD) that obtained 2,5 million euros from the Next Generation EU Funds within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. This project aims to transform the municipality's tourism management model through the use of advanced technologies for data collection and analysis, improving efficiency in the management of tourist resources and strategic planning, allowing Benissa to be consolidated as a Smart Tourist Destination (DTI).
The use of real-time tourism impact monitoring tools, as well as cutting-edge technological solutions such as Digital Twins, Business Intelligence dashboards and Tourism Intelligence Systems (TIS), allow municipal managers to make intelligent decisions based on data and evidence that have an impact on improving the comprehensive tourism management of the destination.
Some of the key data analysed by the Smart Office are the number of visitors and their behaviour patterns both in person and online, the economic impact they generate in the destination and the evolution of activity in the different types of tourist accommodation, with special attention to Tourist Use Housing (VUT).
In the words of Virginia Pérez, Councillor for Tourism at Benissa Town Hall, “Benissa’s Smart Office is revolutionising the way we manage our tourist destination, improving coordination between the different municipal areas, ensuring sustainable, efficient and people-centred development, and positioning the municipality as a benchmark in tourism innovation.”
The AMT Smart Destination Awards ceremony will take place today, Thursday, January 23, at 16 p.m., within the framework of FITURTECHY #techYdestino (hall 10B).
