The Head of the Calp Local Police has presented the report of actions corresponding to the year 2024, which states that the agents carried out a total of 22.200 services throughout the year. Among them, the 12.316 complaints filed for violations of the Traffic Ordinance stand out, with an average of almost 34 complaints per day.
The report, prepared by the new Chief Superintendent of the Local Police, Juan Antonio Sánchez Pérez, details the interventions carried out in various areas. In terms of control and surveillance, 1.534 interventions were carried out at checkpoints, 1.257 vehicles were sealed and immobilised and 1.030 humanitarian aid or rescue actions were carried out. In addition, 976 interventions were recorded in private conflicts and 760 in cases of gender violence and minors.
As regards the occupation of public roads, the agents made 508 complaints, in addition to managing 655 criminal or administrative summons and regulating traffic at more than 700 cultural, sporting or festive events. In total, the Local Police attended to 345 traffic accidents.
Other notable actions in the report include 96 interventions for the seizure of street vendor merchandise, 254 interventions for public disorder, 164 for theft or robbery and 162 for violations of municipal ordinances.
The Accident Investigation Unit analysed a total of 407 traffic accidents that occurred in the municipality. Of these, 100 only caused material damage, 46 left minor injuries, 45 were related to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and 19 resulted in serious injuries. In this context, 460 vehicles were immobilised, of which 226 were uninsured and 92 were impounded for driving under the influence of toxic substances.
Training and strengthening of the police force
During 2024, the Calp Local Police continued its training work in Road Safety, providing educational sessions to 632 boys and girls from primary education centres and nursery schools in the municipality. In addition, the officers actively participated in humanitarian and surveillance work in the towns affected by the DANA, using vehicles, drones and human resources for several weeks.
In the area of internal training, officers received training in the use of Taser devices and in drug detection tests for drivers. In addition, two selection processes were carried out that allowed the incorporation of 10 new officers from the basic scale and 6 interim officers, raising the total staff to 75 police officers (65 officers, 8 officers, 1 inspector and 1 superintendent). The female presence in the force has also increased, reaching 13,79% in 2024.
