The Benissa Athletics Track will be a reality in just a few months. Specifically, six months is the time frame in which the long-awaited installation could be ready by the successful bidder, Mediterráneo de Obras y Asfaltos SA
Adrián Cabrera, Councillor for Sports, was very happy and excited: "For me it is a dream come true that today we can say that the works on the new athletics track in Benissa have begun. It was my main objective since I took on the challenge of being Councillor for Sports."
The track, which will be built on Madrid Avenue (where the dirt track is currently located), will have 6 lanes and 400 meters of rope. The first phase of the project includes the construction of the track
approved, the perimeter fence and the construction of a PumpTrack for bicycles. In a second phase, the stands and changing rooms will be built.
The council has already requested a grant to undertake this last phase of the project. During the course of the project, the council will look for alternatives until the works are completed. The works, 65% financed by the Alicante Provincial Council, through the Planifica 2020-2023, will entail an investment of 762.172,70 euros.
Arturo Poquet, Mayor of Benissa, also expressed his satisfaction at the start of the works: "We know that it has taken a lot of effort to get here. It is a long-awaited day and we are very pleased to be able to announce that we will soon be opening the new athletics track."
The Benissa Sports City continues to grow to provide athletes with the best facilities and turn the municipality into the sporting epicentre of the Marina Alta.
