The Marina Alta will only provide 1% of Alicante TRAM passengers in 2024

February 06 from 2025 - 13: 17

The three regions that comprise the 13 municipalities to which the TRAM d'Alacant network offers train and tram service accommodated 19.946.839 trips last year, divided into 228.249 in Marina Alta, 17.010.447 in L'Alacantí and 2.708143 in Marina Baixa. These figures mean that the specific weight of each region is 1,14%, 85,28% and 13,58% respectively, of the total of the metropolitan network.

The Marina Alta region is home to five municipalities, among which stands out Dénia with 120.025 passengers in 2024 and 0,60% of the metro movements. Calp, with 37.053, is 0,19%; Teulada, with 33.593, 0,17%; Gata de Gorgos, with 29.635 users, 0,15%; and Benissa, with 7.943, 0,04% of TRAM d'Alacant.

It is worth remembering that for almost the entire year, rail traffic on Line 9 has been interrupted between Calp and Altea due to modernisation works on the line itself, with a substitute bus service being offered, which may have reduced passengers to the two regions of La Marina.

The L'Alacantí region is home to the municipality with the most movements in 2024, the capital Alicante, which contributed 13.506.909 users, 67,71% of the total TRAM d'Alacant. Sant Vicent del Raspeig accumulated 1.968.292, 9,87%, and El Campello obtained 1.535.246 passengers, 7,70% of the network traffic.

The Marina Baixa region is also home to five municipalities, including Benidorm, which, with 1.535.588 passengers, has become the third municipality with the most movements on the network, surpassing El Campello by just 342 traffics, which represents 7,70% of TRAM d'Alacant journeys. La Vila Joiosa, with 644.480, represents 3,23%; Altea, with 263.371, 1,32%; Finestrat, with 175.663, 0,88% and Alfàs del Pi, with 89.041, 0,45% of the total.

Distribution by seasons

The Dénia station in the Marina Alta region was the one with the highest volume of traffic, with 99.075 journeys, followed by Calp with 37.053; Teulada, with 33.593; Gata de Gorgos, with 29.635; and La Xara, with 12.407 passengers.

Among the L'Alacantí stations outside the city of Alicante, where Luceros with 3.529.622 customers remains the leader of the entire network and accounted for 17,70% of the total, the Sant Vicent del Raspeig stations, with 1.100.735 movements and 5,52% of specific weight, and the El Campello stations, with 627.422 and 3,15%, are the most notable.

The station with the most passengers last year outside the capital is in the Marina Baixa region, specifically Benidorm, which reached 1.425.501 users, 7,15% of the entire network. It was followed in this region by Creueta, with 304.142; Cala Finestrat, with 175.663; Altea, with 143.393; and La Vila Joiosa, with 130.878 passengers.
